For a given alloy, a larger undercooling below T0 would allow more bainite to form before diffusionless growth becomes impossible. Consistent with experimental data, the model also requires the bainite C curve of the TTT diagram to tend asymptotically to in®nite time (Fig. 5) at a temperature corresponding to the T0 or Tom temperature whichever is higher, since the transformation of austenite without a composition change cannot occur above this limit.

At the higher temperatures where bainite occurs, `coherent growth' can only `take place when the strain due to the density change is relieved'.
